As many flats and apartments for sale are priced below £500,000, people buying a flat stand to save the most when it comes to The Stamp Duty Holiday which was announced by the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, on 8th July 2020 to help boost the economy post the Coronavirus lockdown.

The Chancellor confirmed there will be no stamp duty to pay on property purchases up to £500,000 until 31st March 2021 so if you have been thinking of buying a property, in particular a flat, now is the time to take action as you can save up to £15,000 on Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) until March 2021.

8. Make A Flat Your Own

There are some fantastic examples of how interior design can be used to make a flat feel more spacious and contemporary. Buying a flat will let you make all the changes you want, something if you currently rent, you are unable to do in most cases. A note must be made that you will usually need written permission from the freeholder if the changes you want to make are of a structural nature.

The average price of a flat has experienced a substantial increase in value in the last 10 years. Data from the Land Registry shows that the average price for a flat/maisonette has increased by 40% since 2010, rising from £186,000 to £261,800 in September 2020.
